Osteofibrous dysplasia is a rare, benign non-neoplastic condition with no known cause. It is considered a fibrovascular defect. Campanacci described this condition in two leg bones, the tibia and fibula, and coined the term. In 1942, however, Jaffe and Lichtenstein described the same condition under the name "nonosteogenic fibroma", so the condition is often known as Jaffe-Campanacci Syndrome. The syndrome's exact nature is under debate, with some authors suggesting that it may be a manifestation of neurofibromatosis. The tibia is the most commonly involved bone, accounting for 85% of cases.
There are no guidelines as to the safe limit of the perforator flap. We make an attempt to define the safe limit of local perforator flap for lower limb reconstruction by comparing it with the limb length of the patient, which is a constant variable for a particular patient.35 below knee perforator flaps were included in the study and were based on a single islanded perforator. The maximum flap length from the perforator was compared to the limb length (from lateral malleolus to head of fibula). Using EPI info 6.04 D software, analysis of the data was done. Perforator propeller flaps with maximum flap length from the perforator equal to or less than one third of the limb length, are safe flaps. Whenever the expected maximum flap length: limb length ratio exceeds more than one third, it is better to look for other reconstructive options. This flap is a simple, safe and versatile procedure to cover moderate sized traumatic lower extremity wounds.
Alessandria d'Egitto, I secolo d. Italian. This comprehensive reference work covers all aspects of growth plate fractures and their complications. Following general reviews of growth plate fractures, 21 chapters deal with each epiphyseal growth plate in the body. All of these chapters are constructed similarly for easy and quick retrieval of the required information. The main emphasis is on evaluation (diagnosis) and management (treatment). A separate section is devoted to premature partial physeal arrest, as this is by far the most common and feared complication of a growth plate fracture and its treatment is involved and controversial. The case studies included are often based on 20- to 30-year follow-ups, revealing cases that originally appeared to be quite satisfactory at the conclusion of growth but were found to have turned out quite poorly years later. This unique text is an essential and excellent resource for any pediatric orthopedic surgeon as well as all personnel in the emergency room. Correctly choosing and executing the exposure needed for a given procedure is one of the orthopedic surgeon's most important tasks, and one that residents work hard to master. This covers all areas of orthopedic surgery, presenting exposures for hand & wrist, forearm, elbow, humerus, shoulder, pelvis, hip & acetabulum, femur, knee, tibia & fibula, foot & ankle, & spine.
The incidence of major trauma due to road traffic accidents and other causes have not reduced inspite of safer roads and vehicles. Road traffic accidents are one of the major causes of mortality and morbidity in the age group of 15-44 years. The severely traumatized lower extremity presents a complex problem to the reconstructive surgeon. This book gives a comprehensive insight about the feasibility of the free vascularized fibula for tibial reconstruction. It studies the various aspects of vascularized bone healing including the time to union, the rate of hypertrophy and also the associated complications of the procedure. It also covers the steps of the operative technique with illustrations. This book should be especially useful for the reconstructive microsurgeons who are dealing with complex extremity injuries as well as the beginner who wants to learn the basics of lower limb reconstruction.
Forensic anthropology, as a sub-discipline of applied physical anthropology, since its inception has contributed immensely in crime scene investigations especially in identification of unknown skeletal material. It is established through numerous studies that long limbs bones have a definite relationship with stature of an individual and thus the length of a long bone could be used to predict the stature. Keeping this in view it is hypothesized that the linear, transverse, sagittal and circumferential dimensions of a long bone should also have a positive relationship with bone length almost in the same manner as a long bone length has it with stature. The present study, conducted on dry and fully ossified long bones, namely humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia and fibula aims at assessing the bilateral variations if any in the fragmentary measures of different long bones, correlation pattern between different fragmentary measurements and bone length, to formulate linear regression equations for estimation of bone length from fragmentary measurements and to identify certain new measurements for estimation of bone length, which have not been used by other researchers.
Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The Bosworth fracture is a rare fracture of the distal fibula with an associated fixed posterior dislocation of the proximal fibular fragment which becomes trapped behind the posterior tibial tubercle. The injury is caused by severe external rotation of the ankle. The ankle remains externally rotated after the injury, making interpretation of X-rays difficult which can lead to misdiagnosis and incorrect treatment. The injury is most commonly treated by open reduction internal fixation as closed reduction is made difficult by the entrapment of the fibula behind the tibia. The entrapment of an intact fibula behind the tibia was described by Ashhurst and Bromer in 1922, who attributed the description of the mechanism of injury to Huguier's 1848 publication. The injury involving fibular fracture with posterior dislocation was described by David M. Bosworth in 1947.
In human anatomy, the ankle joint is formed where the foot and the leg meet. The ankle, or talocrural joint, is a synovial hinge joint that connects the distal ends of the tibia and fibula in the lower limb with the proximal end of the talus bone in the foot. The articulation between the tibia and the talus bears more weight than between the smaller fibula and the talus. The term ankle is used to describe structures in the region of the ankle joint proper
The author is an experienced systems and organisational analyst who examined ancient sources with present-day analytical methods to retrieve our ancestors' sciences. This uncovered a general quantum theory offering answers to current questions such as, • Why do galaxies form spiral arms? • Why is the universe expanding at an accelerating rate? • What can travel through a black hole? • What does dark matter do? • Where does dark energy come from? • What does String Theory describe? • Why is it impossible to detect gravitons? • Which other boson types exist, what do they do, and when is the best time to spot them? This systematic analysis builds on the findings of experts from diverse scientific domains. It examines a selection of ancient traditions and texts in the context of more than 200 artefacts dating from before the Neolithic to pre-Renaissance times.
